Honda Powersports Company Profile
Honda’s mission statement is this: “Maintaining a global viewpoint, we are dedicated to supplying products of the highest quality, yet at a reasonable price for worldwide customer satisfaction.” (Emphasis by me)
Honda Powersports lives to produce high-quality products at affordable prices – a motto that they have backed ever since they went into business over 50 years ago. Regardless of if it’s an automobile (like the Accord or Civic) or an MX bike (like the CRF450), Honda Powersports makes quality and performance the utmost priority. It’s due to this attention to quality that they are world-renowned as one of the most successful and prestigious automotive providers in the world.
Honda Powersports Company History
In October 1946, Soichiro Honda established the Honda Technical Research Institute in Hamamatsu, Japan, to develop and produce 2-cycle motorbike engines. The company was met with several difficulties early in its career, but it persevered, and by 1959 it had grown large enough to warrant a storefront in Los Angeles. The store had six total employees.
By 1964, Honda Powersports was the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles. Their reputation and profits continued to grow with the introduction of their first car around the same time. Over the next several decades, Honda Powersports would establish itself as a provider of quality vehicles and power engines at affordable prices.
Today, Honda Powersports still holds that reputation and continues to produce award-winning cars, SUVs, motorcycles, and power sports equipment. Also, they continue to place innovation, safety, and the environment at the forefront of their operation.
Quality of Honda Motorcycles
The Honda motorcycles line, from street bikes to dirt bikes, are built with the same high-quality craftsmanship that put Honda Powersports on the map when it was making simple 2-stroke motorbike engines. As a result, these motorcycles are always at the top of the list in the categories of reliability, low maintenance, and quality build.
One of the greatest and most popular facets of Honda’s motorcycles (and one of the largest contributing factors to their success) is the company’s ability to offer top quality bikes at very affordable prices. One common comparison between motorcycle enthusiasts is the price-to-quality ratio between different bike manufacturers. In those comparisons, Honda bikes are almost always at the top of the list, which makes its bikes a great choice for budget-minded riders.
Awards and Recognition
The list of Honda’s past and current recognition is near limitless and includes several “most popular,” “safest,” “best resale value,” and similarly titled awards for Honda’s line of automobiles. But, for the sake of this profile, we’ll focus on this growing list of recent motorcycle awards.
- 17 Honda Bikes listed on Motocrossactionmag.com’s “Best Bikes of the Past 34 Years.”
- Appears on several “Ten Best Bikes” lists on Cycleworld.com
- CRF450X – winner of more Baja races than all other recent 450-class machines combined.
- CRF250R – Bike of 2014 250SX East Champion, Justin Bogle
The public considers Honda motorcycles to be some of the best entry bikes for any aspiring motocross enthusiast. Bike enthusiasts around the world are continually praising the quality build, affordable price, and reliable performance of these bikes. There’s a good reason why Honda Powersports is one of the “Big Four Japanese Motorcycle Companies” – because the public admires and trusts the company to deliver a high-quality product.
